Mississippi

The 2009 state legislature introduced two bills on trans fat. Both bills would have required every nutrition label for fats, oils, and shortenings to be kept at every foodservice establishment. The ban would have also prohibited the use of trans fat in oils, shortenings, and margarines with the exception of deep fried yeast dough. Both bills have died in the Public Health and Welfare Committee.

The state legislature introduced two bills in 2007 that would have eliminated the use of trans fat in public schools. The first bill would have required the State Board of Education to adopt regulations requiring schools to eliminate artificial trans fat in food items served to students. The second bill would have eliminated trans fat in all schools, including vending machines. Both bills are no longer active.
