In 2008, Louisiana adopted a bill requesting the Department of Health and Hospitals and the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education to study and advise what action should be taken with foods containing trans fat.
The same year a bill was introduced to require foodservice establishments that sell food-containing trans fat to disclose the information on menus and menu boards. A third proposal would have prohibited public schools from using trans fat beginning in the 2009-2010 school year. Both bills were defeated at the end of the legislative session.
