In February 2010, the Kansas Senate introduced a bill on menu labeling. The bill would apply to foodservice establishments with 10 or more locations nationwide. Calories would be displayed on menus and menu boards. Additional nutrition information that would be required upon request is: grams of carbohydrates, grams of saturated fat, and milligrams of sodium. The information would need to be provided in a pamphlet, poster, or other means. A statement must also be included on menus about the daily-suggested caloric intake that is easily understood by the public in the context of a total daily diet and explains the significance of the calorie information that is provided on the menu. The bill would be in effect and be enforceable upon its publication in the state statute book. The bill under review of the Senate Public Health and Welfare Committee.
