The state Senate introduced the ‘Nutrition Council Act.’ One of its goals was to educate New Mexico residents about good nutrition choices by creating a public education program and campaign on health, nutrition, and ideal weight maintenance. The Senate Public Affairs Committee reviewed the act, but it died in committee.
In 2007, New Mexico requested that the Environmental Improvement Board along with the New Mexico Restaurant Association examine ways to educate the public about trans fat in food served at restaurants.
Also in 2007, legislation was introduced to require restaurants with three or more locations statewide to post calorie information, and limit the amount of trans fat per serving to 0.5 grams. The bill died at the end of the legislative session.
